The event host and moderator was Javier Arguello, Board Member of NACD and Co-Chair of the Yale SOM Alumni Association for Washington DC. Speakers included the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro; Civic Leader, Felix Maradiaga, and distinguished professor of theology, Father Thomas Joseph White OP. Nicaragua on the verge of a civil war…

August, 2018: Violent confrontations between protesters and government security forces have been steadily escalating since April, fueling speculation that Nicaragua is on the brink of all-out civil war. Thousands of Nicaraguans are already fleeing abroad and the impact on U.S. borders could escalate an already-heated immigration debate. During the last Nicaraguan civil war, over 250,000 Nicaraguan refugees sought asylum in the United States.

Cocaine: 50 Years of the War On Drugs

November, 2012: This essay examines the effects of the war on drugs in Central America, after five decades of evidence of its efficacy as a policy to reduce the supply/consumption without addressing the demand-side of the equation. The war on a drug consumed by less than 2% of Americans affects the stability of 100% of Central America. The article also sheds light on to the Nicaraguan narco-state, which peacefully exports cocaine through a monopoly and business managed by Daniel Ortega’s inner circle, well before this was publicly accepted or discussed.
